In recognition of outstanding individual performances during the 2008 IndependentAdvice.com CLAXTON SHIELD the Australian Baseball Federation is pleased to announce that one player will be awarded the 'FIELDERS CHOICE Player of the Round' following each week of this year's competition.

In addition to being recognised as the most outstanding player of the given week, Fielders Choice - one of Australia's leading baseball retailers - will present the awardees with $200 worth of baseball products to be purchased at any of their retail outlets around the country or direct from www.fielders.net

As a result, the ABF is pleased to announce Tim Cox from the NSW Patriots has been named 'FIELDERS CHOICE Player of the Round' for week three.
Cox's near-perfect winning effort in Game One of the Patriots' series against Australia Provincial improved him to 2-0 on the season and was enough for him to get the nod ahead of a crowded field of spectacular offensive performances.

With his team trailing 7-3, Cox entered the game in the top of the 5th inning and would prove to be all NSW would need out of the bullpen, as he proceeded to fire 4.1 innings of shutout baseball, allowing just one hit and striking out eight. (The Patriots went on to win the game 9-7)

So dominant was his performance, that it now leaves him leading, or tied for the lead amongst all Claxton Shield pitchers in Wins (2), ERA (0.00), Strikeouts (13) and Opposition Batting Average (.036) after three completed rounds.

Other nominees for this week’s award were Provincial's catcher Michael Collins (4 for 9, HR, 2 Doubles, 4 RBI), Victorians Scott McIntyre (6 for 11, 2 RBI) and Daniel Berg (7 for 13, 3 Runs scored) and Perth HEAT second baseman Luke Hughes who was a crucial part in all three games of his team's series-winning performance.
