AUSTRALIAN NATIONAL TEAM ANNOUNCES

“FIELDERS CHOICE” AWARDS

The Australian Baseball Federation is pleased to announce the presentation of the inaugural FIELDERS CHOICE Awards for outstanding performances by members the Australian National Team.

Following the team’s return from their most successful World Cup campaign ever – FIELDERS CHOICE have agreed to present two awards in recognition of outstanding individual performances during Australia’s month-long tour of Asia.

FIELDERS CHOICE Most Valuable Player – Trent Oeltjen

Trent Oeltjen emerged as the clear-cut winner of the inaugural FIELDERS CHOICE MVP Award following his dominant performance in Taiwan.

The “young veteran” from New South Wales was always slated to be the Aussie’s offensive catalyst, but few would have guessed he would have quite the impact he did during the World Cup.

Oeltjen led Australia (or tied for the lead) in 11 different offence categories including; Batting Average, Slugging Percentage, Hits, Stolen Bases and Runs Scored.

In addition, he played errorless defence in every inning of every game for Australia, an achievement that had him named as the starting centerfielder in the World All-Star team.

The accolades continued as he went on to take out the World Cup batting crown (.523), as well as leading the entire tournament in Runs Scored (12) and Stolen Bases (7).
